The approval of menbutone filled in the blank of choleric drugs for animals in China
In veterinary clinic, the incidence of digestive diseases in pigs, cattle, sheep and other animals is high. However, gastrointestinal dysfunction, such as loss of appetite, indigestion, constipation, abdominal distension, gastrointestinal relaxation, rumen accumulation, etc, are concomitant or secondary to almost all diseases in animals. Animal dyspepsia can hinder the growth and development of animals, decrease the production performance and even kill them, often causing great economic losses.
The raw materials and preparations of menbutone were approved to be marketed in Germany in 1965, and were approved as cholagogue for animals use by the European veterinary drug products committee in 1996. Menbutone can effectively treat animal dyspepsia, loss of appetite, constipation, abdominal distension and other gastrointestinal dysfunction, improve the digestion and absorption function. It is widely used in pigs, cattle, sheep, goats, horses and dogs for dyspepsia, anorexia, constipation, toxemia, liver and pancreas dysfunction. So far, menbutone preparations are still on the market in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea and Thailand while the raw materials and preparations are blank in China.

Molecular formula is C15H14O4, molecular weight is 258.27.

It can stimulate the secretion of gastrointestinal digestive juices and increase the secretion of bile by about 2 times, the secretion of gastric juice and pancreatic juice about 5 times of the normal secretion, the secretion of cholate, pepsin, trypsin, pancreatic lipase and pancreatic amylase, promote the digestion and absorption of fat, protein and starch, improve and restore liver metabolism.
